A chat with Iron1 ahead of his "Gossip" EP

Iron1's debut EP, "GOSSIP," combines influences from Argentina's underground scene with global inspirations. Known for his eclectic sound that fuses jazz, blues, and psychedelic elements, Iron1 has crafted a sonic identity that resonates deeply with listeners. In this interview, Iron1 opens up about the creative process behind "GOSSIP," the role of storytelling in dance music, and how his diverse musical tastes—from psychedelic rock to house grooves—shape his tracks.

First off, congratulations on your debut EP, "GOSSIP"! Can you tell us a bit about the journey leading up to this release? How did your involvement in Argentina's underground scene shape your sound?

Hi friends, how are you? Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I’m genuinely excited about this vinyl release. I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from listening to jazz, blues, and psychedelic music. Over time, I’ve also sharpened my ear by exploring artists not just from Argentina, but from all over the world. It’s been an honor to connect with Melodeum Records.

"New Chapter" has a futuristic feel but still keeps that classic groove. Was this a deliberate attempt to blend the past with the future? What inspired the atmosphere on this track?

"New Chapter" is really a collection of emotions, sensations, and feelings that came to life during its creation. I wanted to craft something that would resonate with the listener, leaving a lasting impression. There’s a strong psychedelic and captivating essence in the track, designed to evoke reflection and contemplation. More than anything, it symbolizes a shift in my production, marking the transition from past to present.

The title track, "GOSSIP," really stands out with its approach. How do you think storytelling plays a role in dance music, and how did you channel that into this particular track?

"GOSSIP" has this unique groove that plays with melodies and clicks, blending them with powerful drops. On the dancefloor, I feel it would really captivate listeners, especially during those key moments where the energy shifts with the drops.

You mix house grooves with elements like psychedelic jazz, which isn't something we hear every day. Where do you draw these diverse influences from?

These influences come from my everyday listening habits—whether it’s jazz, psychedelic rock, or anything else, they spark ideas for my tracks. Even though my sound has always had a psychedelic element, from my early releases until now, I think it’s more present in my music today.

"Jameson," especially with its soulful keys, is a personal favorite. How do you approach creating a track that leaves a lasting impression?

Thank you so much! I’m really happy you enjoyed it. "Jameson" was an experiment for me, especially in terms of pushing my skills with the keyboard. I focused on keeping a strong house groove while introducing standout harmonies in key moments. The track also carries a fat, dry bass that drives the energy. Jazz was a big influence in shaping this one.

Melodeum Records described your music as having the confidence of a seasoned producer. How did you develop your sound so quickly, and what advice would you give to other upcoming artists trying to find their voice?

The best advice I could give to any producer trying to discover their style is to first ask themselves what they want to evoke in the listener. Once you have that answer, immerse yourself in all kinds of music—not just electronic, but other genres too. These can spark ideas you wouldn’t expect. Speaking about my own sound, it’s taken years to shape. It keeps evolving, becoming more versatile, allowing me to create tracks that differ from one release to the next.

Finally, with "GOSSIP" marking the beginning of your journey, where do you see yourself headed next? Are there any directions or collaborations you're excited about exploring?

My goal is to get my album heard in as many places as possible worldwide. I’d love to keep releasing music on vinyl—it’s such a beautiful format. I also hope to perform outside of Argentina. I believe this album has the potential to open new doors for me. Thank you so much for your thoughtful questions and for taking the time to listen to my music. I truly appreciate it.
