DJ Frank discusses new EP
German DJ and producer DJ Frank arrives with a debut EP that feels raw, nostalgic and unapologetically honest. Rather than a conventional club release, it captures a fleeting moment in time – a conceptual snapshot where emotion takes the lead and memories surface through instinctive production. The record centres around ‘Think About Us’, a track whose direct, heartfelt energy threads through the whole project. ‘Come Thru’ brings effortless groove, while ‘Can’t Let Go’ reveals itself slowly, rewarding anyone who leans in.
Her profile has been rising quickly across Europe, with regular appearances in Cologne, Amsterdam, Berlin and beyond. She has shared line-ups with the likes of DJ Seinfeld, Sandilé, De Sluwe Vos, Benjamin Fröhlich and Gabrielle Kwarteng, and has already been picked up by the prestigious Meanwhile agency in Holland for bookings.
The EP also opens up through the soulful presence of Maria Basel and an inventive rework by Damiano von Erckert, adding new emotional layers without breaking the project’s intimate core. Guided by openness and instinct, DJ Frank leans into curiosity rather than convention, shaping a debut focused less on rules and more on the freedom of the moment.

Your debut EP feels more like an emotional snapshot than a traditional club record. What moment or headspace were you trying to capture when you began shaping these tracks?
Honestly, there was no real intention behind it at the beginning. I had just started producing and didn’t know where to begin, so I followed what felt natural – capturing emotions. The tracks came out of whatever I was dealing with at the time, and they naturally connected because my life felt pretty in-between. I was between cities, between old things and new things, and that ambivalence really shaped the whole mood.
‘Think About Us’ sits at the heart of the release. What makes this track so personal for you, and how did its energy shape the rest of the EP?
Maria and I go way back. We worked together in nightlife, we started DJing around the same time, and when I began producing, we finally met up for a jam in my studio. The whole idea was to make a light, fun summer tune – the Ableton file is literally named ‘frank basel summer hit.’ But because we’re close, we ended up talking about all kinds of deeper things while hanging out, and that conversation shifted the energy of the vocals we recorded once I took them home to build the track. That mood became my anchor for the whole EP. Whenever I drifted too much into overthinking, I returned to that feeling.
Each track has its own character from the effortless groove of ‘Come Thru’ to the more understated depth of ‘Can’t Let Go.’ How did you approach balancing intimacy with dance-floor functionality?
I never forced that balance. It just reflects how I experience music. I’m drawn to intimate, emotional details, but I also love when a track moves without trying too hard. So I let both sides exist. The softer moments stay soft, but there’s always something underneath that keeps things moving. So I just kept following that duality.

The collaboration with Maria Basel and the rework by Damiano von Erckert introduce fresh emotional layers. How did these contributions influence the EP’s overall direction?
I wouldn’t say they changed the direction, more like they added something the EP needed. When you work alone for too long, you get stuck in your own head. Maria brought this openness and warmth that made everything feel more vulnerable. Damiano brought this warm nostalgia and momentum that fit perfectly into the world I had built, even without us having a big conversation about it. It felt like good friends giving perspective that helped the EP breathe beyond my headspace.
You’ve described your production approach as instinctive and curiosity-driven. With this EP now out in the world, how has the process influenced what you want to explore next as DJ Frank?
Finishing this project showed me that instinct is really my strongest tool. I don’t want to force myself into a specific lane or chase trends. Besides being a DJ I am also a creative director, so concept and storytelling is always part of what I do and it will definitely reflect in my next projects. So moving forward, I’ll keep trusting whatever feels genuine and alive – whether that’s in the studio or on the dance floor.
