Masha Dabelka: Electronic Inspirations

Fortunea Records are very excited to kick off their 2025 schedule with a new face on the label, Masha Dabelka. She's been living in Vienna since the late 2000s and has been involved in the local scene for a long time.

Masha describes herself as a cosmopolitan DJ and producer. She doesn’t wear crop tops or clap her hands behind the DJ booth or whilst making music, but tapping her feet, dressed in colorful shoes, reveal her cheerful nature. She also loves juggling the aesthetics of different eras and musical subcultures. But her greatest inspiration and value lie in effortlessness, humor, and authenticity.

Her brand new EP ‘Dolphins In China’ came out on March 7, 2025 on all download stores, streaming services and on vinyl so we took this opportunity to have a chat with Masha about music that has inspired her sound…

Luke Vibert - Acage

Wholesome Acid from the wizard himself, Luke Vibert. I love his versatility and sense of humor in music.

St Julien - Evenbud (Feat Budgie)

Super groovy track that feels familiar but you can’t quite put your finger on why. Like meeting a stranger but somehow feeling like you’ve known them forever.

Vedomir - Forks, Knives And Spoons

One of the most powerful artists who’s influenced me is Vedomir, one of the many aliases of Ukrainian producer Vakula. I really enjoy listening to his music - it has so many unexpected twists, a composition that breathes freedom, and of course, a light touch of retro-futuristic dust.

Pan Sonic - Säteily - Radiation

This track is one of the most emotional listening experiences for me. It’s about an hour long, and it reminds me of the endless Siberian sky and that illusory horizon where nothing but the Arctic Ocean lies beyond. That feeling of frozen tension, a kind of historical limbo - it really takes me back.

Conceiled Project - Pattern 1

This track by Adam Beyer is one of my all-time favorites. It has everything I love - a catchy, beautiful melody, some raw grit, and maybe a bit of mysticism. A perfect example of a loop you can listen to forever.

Kyle Hall - Crushed

One of my favorite producers out there. I love the simplicity of this track, the elegance of the sampling, and, of course, dirty percussion.

The Wake - Melancholy Man

I feel like this track totally captures the essence of British post-punk. I love the whole vibe of that scene - effortless, deep, a bit romantic, but still kind of reserved on the surface.
