intr0beatz's guide to Reykjavík

Intr0beatz: "I’ve lived in Reykjavik all my life except when I stayed in Copenhagen and Amsterdam for about 5 years. I lived in the city centre for about 14 years in total and was super deep into all the downtown shenanigans. Djing almost every weekend, skateboarding, partying and everything in between."

"But since 2019 we moved away from all that into the quiet suburbs and been raising our daughter for the past 2 years. What I'm trying to say is that my favorite spots have changed a bit from sweaty bars into more relaxing places but I’ll try to guide you the best I can so you get a good mix. From bars to restaurants to great outdoor places, Reykjavik has it all!"

"Its your first morning in the city and the fridge in you Airbnb is empty, go to Sandholt. It’s the oldest bakery in Reykjavik from 1920 run by 4th generation of bakers"

"You can get anything from ridiculously good sourdough to shakshuka with Italian sausage."

"Crate digging is of course mandatory and there is only one place for that.

Lucky Records is the only record store in Iceland where you can buy decent records. Their crates are super deep including everything from old original presses to re-releases and most genres you can think of."

If you have a rental car and need to digest all the food you just ate so you can eat more food you should go to any of the outdoor places Reykjavik has to offer. About 20 min from the downtown area outside of the city limits is Heiðmörk. Many walking trails with different distances ranging from about 30 min up to 2-3 hours. A lot of fresh air surrounded by pine trees.

"n"Skúli - Craft bar is a very nice spot with all kinds of refreshing tasty beers, all brewed locally. It’s owned by an old friend of mine who loved growing all kinds of spicy chillies at his home so sometimes you can order wings on the side with some of his home made hot sauces!"

"Depending on your budget, there are loads of dinner options. If you like a cheaper option ( there is nothing cheap in Iceland ) there is another food hall close to Skúli Craft Bar that has a lot of good options.

If you like to go more upscale on your dinner and spend some real cash, why not keep it in the family and go to one of two restaurants near by owned by the wife of Skúli Craft Bars owner. Fishmarket and Grillmarket are two great restaurants very close to each other with different options but all made with locally sourced ingredients (as far as I know)."

"I could name all the dishes I would recommend but I think it’s just better if you take a look at the menu yourself."

"The nightlife scene is something i’ve been staying away from for the past 4 years but I know that finally we have a venue dedicated to electronic music and from what i’ve heard is the next biggest thing. Radar just recently opened and is in the downtown area near to the harbour. I wish I could tell you more but all I know is that a lot of the quality DJ's in the local scene are very hyped about the place."
