IZA triumphs with Spektrale Swing LP on Clockpoets [Review]

Spektrale Swing LP

IZA is a man on a rich vein of form right now. A man who keeps a relatively low profile online, he’s nonetheless earning rave reviews thanks to his knack for weaving, intricate afterparty-suited rhythms. Tracks like ‘Street Nai’ and ‘Stamb’ serve up a case in point, and his latest ventures arrive on a label notable for similar tendencies. The beauty of the Clock Poets label undoubtedly lies in its eclecticism and unpredictability. Rooted in minimal aesthetics, it’s most certainly a suitable home for IZA’s debut full length, Spektrale Swing.

From the sublime sounds of Patrizam (premiered here) to the more introspective, Plastikan-like leanings of ‘Amperage’, it’s an album that showcases many sides of the artist’s well-rounded vision. Moments of light and positivity (‘Spektrale’, ‘Wakzem’) bubble up alongside darker, more traditional cuts like ‘Xenobe’ and the relentless acid stylings of ‘Work to Work’.

One of the highest compliments one can pay this album is that it’s very much a full-length affair: each track is considered as a puzzle in a jigsaw, forming a brilliantly cohesive LP that keeps the listener on their toes throughout. Majestic stuff from an artist whose liking for otherworldly sounds is sure to propel him to a new audience.
