Vinny Villbass, live from Sisyphos

As the year draws to a close we were lucky enough to receive a lengthy three hour recording from Badabing Diskos founder, Vinny Villbass. The Norwegian artist has built a reputation for all things house. To tie in with the recording we asked him to share with us five of his favourite deep house cuts from over the years…

Listen to his recent set at Berlin hotspot, Sisyphos below

“This was a hard task, there are so many tracks that need some more love, but at least here is a start from back in the heyday of deep house”

Benjamin Hart – Perfect Love Song

Back around 2001 I was playing a lot of percussive deep house like this and was a big fan of Ian Pooley, Miguel Migs, Mark Farina etc..which mixed quite well with the Norwegian percussive disco era at the time.

Soul Capsule – Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)

At the same time I was a big fan of both Melchior and Baby Ford, but I actually didn't hear this one until quite recently for some reason. Beautiful!!

SlowSupreme – Green Tea

This is actually Lindstrøm before he took the name Lindstrøm. And if i remember correctly, this was first released as a 10» from the label of one of the Oslo clubs at the time, Jazzid. I used to hang out there and listen to everything from garage to jazz, to house. Good times!

Mateo Matos – Stomp Your Feet

I was lucky to see these guys play at another legendary Oslo club called HeadOn, I think around 2000. No internet back then, so I didn’t even know they were playing, I just showed up and the door guy told us who was flown in. Sweaty deep house night to remember.

Kim Brown – Rubies, Riches and Crowns

A bit newer, from 2014, but still an old school deep house sound to it, with bass melodies and beautiful strings. Maybe it's the melancholy that defines the deep house genre?
