Off the back of his latest offering ‘Under Surveillance', nightclubber.ro sat down Milles to talk through a few of his favourite records that helped shape his sound…
X-Sample - Dreamin’ in Buristead Road (Atmosphere Mix)
What a track. The vocals make me feel close to myself. It’s something fascinating
I find with house music in particular, that the vocals feel like home and make me almost hear something I feel I've heard before in another life. The chords and piano work all hit a certain part of the brain that needs to be hit. Drum work is inspiring, flows so well with this it’s unreal.
Ralphi Rosario - Ee-Ah Song
I’m not entirely sure when I first heard this but it hit me so hard that I had to find this track that night when I got home. 3:00 mins in, makes me wanna cry every time. So much emotion in such little stabs. The drum work is next level. To be the person who found this sound and went for it and made this track, played out , they were destroying dance floors. I wonder if they knew they had made a massive banger like this one. Probably.
Jazz N Groove - Do Ya Groove Mix
This song is so fun, so catchy and right on the money. 50 seconds in, you know it’s about to be a good night. Real house , real deep. This is what people should strive for and bring back, lovely vocals and emotion and ideas that are meant to help you feel relaxed and not thinking about your life, just enjoying it. It’s bouncy, the drums in this one are super delicate and thought out. Vocal chops make the song, not gonna lie. The whole ensemble just fits together so well. Crafted by masters.
Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin
I think I was 10. I heard this and then immediately was hooked into electronic music. I pirated FL Studio from a friend and wanted to be him. No shame. There are pinnacle moments in your life when you hear music and it makes you change your life. Deadmau5 did this instantly for me. I think it really exposed me to the more progressive side of things and I still to this day make progressive-esque music. Random Album Title and 4x4=12 were also staples in my life. I would listen to RAT all the time and would cry and want to be in a better place in music with myself. The massive weight of his music made me feel inspired and all I wanted to do was make music like him. Today, I own FL Studio and I don’t listen to him as much as I used to but I know that his music has changed me as a person.
DJ Pipe - Active Society
I met Dylan (DJ Pipe) in Miami at a club back in 2022, then proceeded to stay all night till I think 4 or 5am. Do not regret it. He knows his way around some tracks and has quite a great selection of techy-fun-bouncy stuff. I made music like this for a while trying to understand and make my own spin off of this style. You can hear a lot of influence in my “Uncharted” EP.
Pal Joey - Partytime
I leave you with this gem. Music should be this nice to listen to. You expect it to never end. You know what to expect in this song. I want to be in this dude's head when he is making this track. It makes me think it could have been made today. I love the attitude of the phaser and the melancholy sample that makes me think of New york or Chicago. Drums hit so well, he knew what he was doing with them. Makes me feel like a little kid. No fear. “We got this” kind of feeling. A sense of getting out of a slump.
