Rewind: Nicolas Lutz presents Nightclubber 93

Nicolas Lutz

The 93rd podcast in our acclaimed mix series came at us via Uruguayan supremo, Nicolas Lutz. And it’s a rarity too: even on Discogs, we can only find two mentions of “official” Lutz mixes: one for Resident Advisor and the other for grhk.org, a Uruguayan collective that hosted an all Uruguayan mix by Lutz. Sure, there are a bunch of ‘live’ mixes out there (be sure to check out a mix he recorded from Houghton), but studio mixes - whereby Lutz has virtually his entire vinyl collection to come from - don’t come around too often.

Anyway, Lutz’s mix for us sees him go customarily weird and wonky. Our most played podcast (to date, it’s clocked more than 105,000 plays), it sees our protagonist in vintage form. Really coming to life around the 15-minute mark, it’s packed to the brim full of funky grooves and obscure tracks, and despite being almost 12 (yes, 12!) years old, it still packs a serious punch. Indeed, it’s testament to Lutz that his DJ style has barely changed in the time since this one was published: it’s still very much centered around brilliant atmospherics, long, drawn-out mixes and tough-to-pigeonhole tracks. Indeed, we’ve spent years trying to ID some of these tracks to no avail. So if you know, please let us know!

In the meantime, make sure to take a listen to the My Own Jupiter’s boss’ Nightclubber mix below. This one’s a galactical trip of the type we can very much get down with. Simply majestic stuff.
