Alessio Collina discusses new Trend Records release
Alessio Collina lives and breathes dance music. Starting his DJ journey at just 13 years old, he has grown into one of the most respected figures in Italy’s vibrant electronic scene. Known for his eclectic sets and innovative productions spanning genres from deep house to techno, Alessio’s passion for vinyl and his dedication to high-quality music have earned him accolades from legends like Move D and Kerri Chandler. As the driving force behind Trend Records, a label with 14 years of history, and his raw, vinyl-only alias Hill, Alessio continues to make waves with his commitment to authenticity and artistry. Whether crafting reissues of iconic Italian tracks or playing all-night-long sets across Europe, Alessio brings a passion and energy that resonate deeply with fans and peers alike.
His latest record, the Mind Runner EP, is indicative of his talent, and really showcases the many different sounds that are regularly found in his work. With the record out now via Alessio’s Trend Records, we thought it a good time to check in with the man himself…

Your latest record on Trend, the Mind Runner EP, is fantastic! What vibes or emotions were you aiming to capture with this release?
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the new EP. It took me four months to complete because I don’t go into the studio unless I’m inspired. For me, forcing it can be counterproductive. Each track reflects my mood at the time of creating it – from the euphoric ‘hands-up’ energy of a summer open-air event to the darker vibes of a smoky club.
With Mind Runner EP, I wanted to capture the joy of life – those moments of being in a club with friends, driving with the windows down and feeling the breeze, and just savouring the present. It’s pure dancefloor music, no compromises, driven by my heart and emotions rather than trends.
Trend Records has been pivotal for emerging and established talent. How do you approach A&R, and what do you look for in new music?
I see Trend Records as a virtual family – a platform to showcase quality music from artists who align with our philosophy. I’m not drawn to hype-driven trends or artists who simply follow what’s popular. I look for originality, something fresh that comes from within. When I find a demo I like, I take my time to decide if it’s the right fit. Sometimes, though, magic happens, and a track grabs me on the first listen! If the music is dope, you’ve got my attention.

If an artist wants their music signed to Trend, how should they approach you?
The best way is to email me at trendrecords@gmail.com with a private SoundCloud link. That makes it easier for me to listen when I have time. You can also send music via Instagram, Facebook, SoundCloud, or any platform where you can find me or Trend Records. Music is about sharing, and I love making new connections – it’s one of the best things about this industry.
How do you decide when to release your own music on Trend, and what factors into that decision?
There’s no strict process. When I have a set of demos, I figure out where they fit best – whether that’s Trend or another label. I don’t release all my tracks on Trend because it’s beneficial to release on other respected labels too. That way, I can reach a wider audience and help Trend grow through my artist profile. For instance, last summer, I released my first solo EP on Skylax, which introduced me to a different audience. My forthcoming Mind Runner EP will benefit from that exposure.
What’s your take on the current state of the modern electronic music scene in Italy?
Italy has a rich history in dance music, but it’s currently facing challenges, especially with inflation. Many clubs have closed or shifted to more mainstream, pop-focused directions. Festivals have become more prominent than clubs, often relying on headliners to draw crowds. That said, I see curiosity in the younger generation, especially in the crowds that book me or young DJs who seek advice. I’m hopeful for the future – times change, but the underground will always persist.

What do you hope your audience takes away from listening to the record?
I hope to connect with people on the dancefloor and give them memorable moments – whether it’s now or years from the release. I want them to feel joy, energy, and a sense of connection while dancing or simply listening.
Let’s talk a bit about the ‘Soundtrack to your life. What are five songs that have really influenced you over the years?
Jamiroquai – ‘Give Me Something’ (2001)
This song reminds me of childhood holidays with my mum and brother. It brings back lovely memories and holds a special place in my heart.
Tito Valdez – ‘Tumbe’ (The Big Nowhere)
A 1992 classic from my dad’s collection, blending Latin percussion, trance-inspired leads, Brazilian vocal samples, and an incredible bassline. This track is timeless and has greatly influenced me.
Slam – ‘Lifetimes’
This epic track takes me back to my early gigs at Classic Club in Rimini. My friends Marco and Alessandro (Athletic Duo) dropped this as the sun rose – pure magic.
Lil Louis – ‘French Kiss’
Arguably the best house track ever. Its groove, energy, and that iconic slowdown-break are unmatched. This masterpiece has been a major influence on me.
Riviera Traxx – ‘You Better Believe’
A legendary track by Flavio Vecchi from 1992. It embodies the Adriatic coast’s iconic sound, which became so renowned. This record is personal because my dad gave it to me, sparking my journey into understanding the 90s clubbing culture of Rimini and Riccione.
