Chicago's Garrett David remixes Okain on LOCUS (Premiere)
Okain, a label boss at Talman Records, is a well-known figure in the house, minimal, and techno scenes. Based in Berlin but originally from Paris, his outstanding studio work includes releases on several esteemed labels such as Infuse, Pleasure Zone, Constant Sound, Eastenderz, and PIV. He has also performed at prestigious venues like Panorama Bar, fabric, and Rex Club. His EP, 'Daddy's Groove,' released earlier this year, gained recognition from popular DJs such as Moxie, D'Julz, Chris Stussy, and Djebali. In April, he returns to LOCUS with his new EP, 'All Along,' featuring a remix by American DJ/producer Garrett David, who is also making his label debut.
The lead track, 'With You All Along,' features cosmic melodies and distorted vocals, accompanied by tight and hypnotic grooves with rich organic drums. It draws inspiration from classic tech house tracks from the 90s and early 00s, like those by Peace Division. The second track, 'Botellon,' has a more stripped-back feel, with fluctuating synth leads and shimmering pads interplaying with skippy drums. Garrett David's remix of the same track takes the listener to spacier soundscapes, adding a killer bassline to the mix. Finally, 'Escape The Lobby' concludes the EP with punchy kicks, sweeping atmospherics, and squelching stabs, all beautifully intertwined with snippets of bliss.
