Off the back of his latest single MYLAMINE talks us through 10 tracks that inspired his sound….
Lone - Saturday Night (DJ Kicks) - Mixed
Lone had a remarkable influence on not just my musical creativity and sound but also my music listening tastes. Before discovering his earlier albums, I had not given house music and 4x4 beats a chance. It all seemed so dull and repetitive. Then came along Lone who weaves vibrant textures and melodies to raucous house beats. I was sold and never looked back.
Tie It Up - Crackazat Rework - DJ Spinna
One of my first introductions to Crackazat, this song was on constant rotation for years. Crackazat can get you up and dancing but also is just as amazing with the headphones on. Every track he lays his hands on is masterfully crafted. You can really hear his history of being a jazz pianist shine through his music.
Kolter - Duke
DJOKO’s music speaks for itself. Very crisp and clean production filled with emotion. This track in particular is my favorite from his catalog and is always getting played. The piano part is so well produced and beautiful, it is almost cinematic how it plays.
Bootie Grove - Best of Me
Another song that really grabs at your feelings and gets you in an introspective mood. Bootie Grove is releasing a lot of music right now in this similar vein. Great driving music and is also great to zone out to and think about life and past relationships.
Alexny - Bourbon Street Cafe
I can’t get enough jazz samples whether in house or hip-hop production. I gravitate towards them in music. While I would never use a sample myself, they make for incredibly chill and relaxing listening experiences. This song by Alexny really hits all the notes for me.
Subjoi - Know You Better
More great emotive house. What more can be said about Subjoi and this track. This is a steady playlist selection for me. Very approachable music and a joy to listen to.
Swing Duke - Housie Moody
One of my favorite house anthems. Can’t get enough of this song to the point where even my girlfriend said “Wow, you play this a lot.” I am excited to see what Swing Duke has in store for the future.
Jorg Burger - Men of Many Sayings
Kompakt was an early influence on me, it was something I discovered when I was just getting into electronic music. The very relaxing and slower bpm techno was a great departure from other things I was listening to at the time like Aphex Twin. This song is straight nostalgia for me.
Shur-I-Kan - Strings, Beats & Life
Very well produced music from Shur-I-Kan. When I'm listening to this tune I’m wondering how he did this, how he did that, how did he get the percussion to sound so crisp and get those pianos so banging. You know an artist is great when you can learn something from them on every listen.
Gnork - Yoga on E
One of my favorite all time tracks for sure. You can play this at any time and it will lift your mood. I love the vibrant melodies in this song, they take you on a journey to a beach or a tropical paradise. The constant flute-like synth is a great backdrop as he builds an expansive track all around it.
