Andu Simion mixes Nightclubber 159

Andu Simion is a Dj and producer from Ploieşti, România, and the co-founder of the Lisière Collectif project. We invited Andu to record a mix for our podcast which you can listen exclusively on our Soundcloud and Youtube channels. We also had a nice chat with the man himself, as per the below...

Tell us a bit about this mix? Where did you record it and when?

I recorded the session in mid-December 2021 at my home in Ploiesti, together with Luna (my Jack Russell Terrier). I tried to mix a lot of jams that have captivated me over the years, tracks made by some of my favorite producers that had a fantastic effect on the dance floor every time.

How does your mood dictate what you play?

Like any artist, I am influenced by the situations around me and try to transpose them into different media. My daily routine and the unfortunate or happy events in my life have helped me over the years to create my own direction in both music and photography. Especially for this session, after I’ve finished the office day, I prepared a glass of whisky, pressed the play button and I don't even know how 90 minutes passed…

Can you talk us through some of the records and transitions on the mix?

The jams I have selected for this session are from different areas of electronic music, stylistically and geographically. I tried to blend deep house, techno, minimal, some acid, breakbeat, basically the music that always accompanies me and that I play in the club, produced by artists such as Baby Ford, Ion Ludwig, Efdemin, Baaz, Ben Boe, Da Kine, D'Julz but also some new stuff from Kosmogonik, along one of my own track that will be released soon on Atipic label.

Music aside, what else is keeping you busy right now?

Apart from music projects, I am constantly trying to improve my photographic technique, update my portfolio and experiment with different mediums. Also, together with Dimitrie Jbanca, I started a new project & record label called PLUGGED:IN, which will release music on cassette tapes in Romania (and worldwide). The first release is ready, it’s actually an ambient-electro-acid journey and it is available on the market.

What have you been busy working on recently (musically) and what else can we look forward to from you over the next while?

I recently worked and finished my first electronic music album, which is available on a hybrid medium - both CD and digital. It contains 12 tracks produced in the last few years, in different times in my life. The album is called Random Studio Incidents. Apart of this, I’ve scheduled some new vinyl releases, some new remixes and Various Artists features.

I would like to thank you nightclubber.ro for invitation, for me it was a pleasure to be able to contribute with a session to the platform, it is one of the keystone platforms in the underground music industry in Romania. Keep it up!
