Chris Stussy unveils Up The Stuss scholarship as newcomer Pedro Borlado launches project with his debut EP.
As Chris Stussy’s Up The Stuss label approaches its fourth anniversary, he continues to expand his influence as both an artist and label head with the launch of an exciting new project. Known for spotlighting global talent, his next initiative, the Scholarship, dives even deeper, offering emerging artists from around the world mentoring, guidance, and a platform to share their work.
The debut artist on this venture is Pedro Borlado. Originally from Madrid and now based in the U.S., Borlado is a passionate selector with a sound that reflects a maturity beyond his years. Drawing from diverse influences and an array of genres, he now steps into the production spotlight with the release of his debut EP, First Light, on the Up The Stuss sub-label.
The four-track First Light EP opens with the title track, showcasing one of 2024's most memorable basslines, accented by swirling synths and lively drum patterns. Pleasure Pallet follows, fusing acid elements with dynamic, shifting sonics. Seeking Infinity takes on a hazy, groove-laden vibe with snaking percussion and playful arrangement, while E700 closes out the EP with a punch of machine funk and driving low-end. Borlado's debut is a compelling introduction, hinting at a bright future for this fresh new talent.
