fabric presents... Floorplan
Motor City royalty Floorplan – the father–daughter duo of Detroit techno pioneer and minimal techno creator Robert Hood and DJ/producer Lyric Hood – announce their forthcoming entry into the revered ‘fabric presents’ mix series with the release of their new single ‘You’re A Shining Star’, out now. The full mix lands on digital, vinyl, and CD via fabric records on 28 November.
A long-time favourite of the fabric crowd, Robert has played over 20 sets in Room 2 since the club’s early years, including a live New Year’s Eve performance in 2012. His ‘fabric 39: Robert Hood’ mix from 2008 remains one of the series’ most acclaimed instalments. Now, with ‘fabric presents Floorplan’, the story comes full circle – marking both the duo’s debut on the iconic series and a landmark moment for their family project.
About Floorplan:
Born out of Detroit’s deep musical roots and shaped by Motown and vinyl culture, Robert Hood was an early member of the legendary ’90s collective Underground Resistance, helping define the rise of techno. As a solo artist, he pioneered minimal techno with his seminal Minimal Nation LP before launching his own M-Plant label. In 1996, he introduced Floorplan – a project that fused techno with gospel, soul, and house influences.
Lyric Hood grew up surrounded by this creative energy and soon caught the same spark. After Robert’s Paradise album in 2014, the then-16-year-old Lyric joined him on stage for a celebrated Boiler Room set at Dekmantel. By 2016, she was a full member of Floorplan, and together they released Victorious on M-Plant – cementing their bond as a powerhouse duo.
New single – ‘You’re A Shining Star’
Driven by a steady, uplifting rhythm, layers of crisp percussion and bright synth riffs build towards a gospel-infused vocal hook: ‘you’re a shining star, no matter who you are’. With its joyful energy and pulsing organ lines, the track radiates positivity – pure dancefloor uplift.
