French producer Vitess is on form on the Celebrity EP

French producer Vitess has always exhibited a love for captivating jams. Over the past year-or-so, his stock continues to rise, with recent stop-offs in the likes of Seoul, Hong Kong and Bali giving us an insight into an increasingly international appeal. For his latest star turn, he doubles down on his recent work courtesy of the exceptional Celebrity EP. Released, like on his Retro Futura label, it’s indicative of a producer who seems destined for great things. 

This is apparent throughout, but especially on the opening sounds of the title track, ‘Celebrity’. A deep, sci-fi tinged track that provides a lush snapshot into the producer’s knack for the ethereal, it really does take the breath away thanks to its Daft Punk-esque vocals and an effortlessly catchy beat that enthrals throughout. 

‘Calcio’ is another retro-facing track, with this one again reaching for the metaphorical lasers. The kind of track that evokes memories of the Drive soundtrack, it’s clearly been produced in homage to the producer’s love of all things Football Italia, with the backing vocals an especially inspired turn. ‘Talk Box’ is part Alexander Robotnik, part Italo, while final track ‘ACDC’ closes off the record with a fun-time panache that’s all too often lacking in contemporary electronic music. 

RF003 is the sound of a producer having fun. But also one doing so while at the top of his game
