Mr. G announces new LP!

Mr G's ninth studio LP, 'The Fifth Chakra (Ambient Space Tek'), is released via his Phoenix G imprint on October 25th, taking in ten tracks that traverse the notion of electronica for sound systems, with sound system culture being one of the British-Jamaican artist's foremost influences.
'Never did I think I’d get to a meditative place and learn restraint. This is the album I’ve always wanted to make, never thinking I could...... also after loving others’ bass heavy albums it’s a joy to put my own in the mix. What’s funny is i think that, but always have a go anyway “ never give up“ but always remember my thing is weight and tone in whatever I take on.... Especially in this flat compressed world.’ Mr. G, August 2024
Mr. G's preceding LP, 2023's 'Pearls Don't Lay on The Shore' on the Childhood label, hinted at a desire to explore more esoteric sounds. A year after that release, Mr. G, aka Colin McBean, is ready to eschew the percussion-based tracks he's known for and delve deep into largely beatless works on 'The Fifth Chakra (Ambient Space Tek)’.
While the trademark Mr. G MPC drums are all but gone, the rhythm is present and correct, with battle-ready bass providing an infallible backbone to a heady, cosseting and occasionally unsettling long player.
As with any artist with such a defined sound, the musical tropes Mr. G does so well bleed through pleasingly on 'The Fifth Chakra (Ambient Space Tek'). The almost-there vocal samples on 'Mood Swing (bad day)', the dusty hypnotic loops of 'So it began one Tuesday (Ambient Space Tek)', the digi-dub nod on 'Cath's Vision (Dougie's with an ovenproof pini)' and the hi-tek Jazz vibes of 'Distant Memories Tassie' all trumpet precisely what we love about Mr. G, but it's tracks like 'Constant', 'Solar Eclipse NYC' and 'The 5th Chakra' that boldly show an artist allowing himself the freedom to roam through his influences. Perhaps most indicative of this liberty are the light/dark one-two of penultimate track 'Today's Vibe.......gooood' and closer, 'The Dark Before The Light of Dawn' two tracks that embrace a cinematic, otherworldly direction we've only caught glimpses of before.
Powerful, refreshing and beguiling,' The Fifth Chakra (Ambient Space Tek)' is another profoundly personal LP from one of dance music's most enigmatic artists, showing the continuing evolution of a unique voice.
'What I love most is that like an old oak ...still strong and growing. Mr G one love '
