Peachez in Crates Makes Its Debut With Crate 001
A fresh name is emerging from Jeddah’s underground, and Peachez in Crates is introducing itself with a compilation that wastes little time getting down to business. Crate 001, arriving September 16, brings together 11 artists from across the international house community for a debut that digs deep into the foundations of the culture while keeping its eyes firmly on the dancefloor.
Rather than chasing one particular sound, the release moves naturally between deep house, jackin’ grooves, acid, dusty samples, jazz and hip-hop-inflected production. It’s the kind of compilation that feels built for DJs, with plenty of movement, plenty of swing, and enough character to keep things interesting from the opening track through to the closing bars.
Anmarz kicks things off with “Luv Junk”, a soulful hip-hop flip that immediately establishes the label’s crate-digging aesthetic. South African producer BNinjas follows with the dusty, low-slung groove of “Inverts”, while Chanson E pushes the energy higher with the jazzy loops and infectious drums of “Looo Academy”.
The acid heads are catered for too, with Hector Moralez delivering the appropriately titled “Back 2 The Acid”, a driving jackin’ workout that blends squelchy machines with jazzy touches. Iceland’s Intr0beatz heads deeper on “Distorted Reality”, layering filtered samples over a rolling groove, before Jason Hodges brings his trademark swing to “Stringin”.
Joss Moog’s “Future” adds an analogue edge, combining hypnotic acid lines with Rhodes-led moodiness, while Detroit’s Kyle Hall delivers “Nike”, a soulful MPC workout that nods towards hip-hop without ever stepping away from the house floor.
As the compilation heads towards its finale, Marlon George brings lo-fi house and neo-soul together on “Lonyo”, Some Too Suspect injects a dose of funk into “Peeps Peachez”, and Suburb Beat closes the crate with the deep, melodic and bass-heavy “Where The Music Comes From”.
With its debut, Peachez in Crates makes a convincing case for itself as a new bridge between Jeddah and the wider underground. And Crate 001 is only the beginning. The label plans individual releases from the featured artists throughout the following year, alongside a series of remixes connecting the contributors even further.
For now, though, the message is simple: open the crate, turn it up, and let the grooves do the talking.
