The Warm-Up: Monile selects ahead of MOGA Essaouira 2023

The Moroccan-born and Barcelona-based Monile has steadily established herself as both a dynamic and influential figure of the scene. Her impeccable mixing skills and innate ability to connect with her audience make her a sought-after performer, who leaves a lasting imprint on every dancefloor she graces with her innovative fusion of genres — from Chicago house and minimal, to UK breaks and Detroit electro.

Though details are under wraps for the moment, Monile is set to unleash a slew of punchy solo records and collaborations in the coming months, along with her own event series wherein she will be showcasing talented and inspiring artists and friends from different musical backgrounds, and representing her own vision of music.

Ahead of all this she will perform at MOGA Festival, which takes place in the stunning and storied and storied coastal city of Essaouira in Morocco, alongside the likes of A Guy Called Gerald, Gene On Earth, Maayan Nidam, Peach, Quest, Dyed Soundorom, Fumiya Tanaka, tINI, Malika, and Margaret Dygas. We caught up with her ahead of the festivsal, as she gave us a glimpse into her cosmic record bag...

DJ Deeon - 2 B Free

Tribute to the late House legend Deeon Boyd who left us a solid and timeless legacy of ghetto house hits.

‘2 B Free’ is the perfect intro track, starting with a vocal, tension build up part followed by a funky groove explosion setting up the mood of the set.

2 - Moray - Ohhhhh Really [HMV05]

Total dancefloor banger, tested various times. This tune has all the ingredients the crowd needs.

A raw groove pattern, bouncy bassline and a captivating acid melody entering during the break. Made by a talented producer and amazing human being. Good discovery this year.

3 - Active Nature - Twone (Freesome)

Less is more. One of my most played tracks this year. When minimalism meets elegance. Perfect for a warm up to set up a classy and mysterious atmosphere.

4 - Eversines - Fog [ninih004]

From “Dwang” album by talented dutch dj and live act Eversines.

A Minimal techno sound with all the techy glitchy ingredients to generate fire and excitement on the dancefloor.

This album has all you need. From an ambient intro to electro breakbeat, acid and techno. A Perfect fusion of darkness, depth and sexiness. A solid 8 tracks record to have in your bag.

Azo - Acid LOL

303 master Azo (Kiosk Radio Resident) takes us on a gripping acid journey in this record, blending her female essence with the legendary machine (Roland TB-303 which you can hear in all her works).

A mesmerizing sound taking us back to 90’s Detroit with its concise pattern and compelling repetitions, result of the human / machine love.

6 - Alexander Robotnik - Jette le Masque (My La (te)st Album)

A piece of one of Italy’s most precious live acts. Bumpy electric bass line / lei motive, tuneful synth lead and an entertaining vocal. The perfect dancefloor killer recipe.

Loving the title of the album!

8 - RLGN & Locked Club - Betrunkener Hund [Lone Romantic]

From underground label ‘’Lone Romantic’’ Label by Maceo Plex.

With its mighty protagonist acid Bassline, supported by various background synths and dynamic percussions, this track captivates you from the first second. A perfect mastery of tension and release.

All elements are morphing together (perfectly mixed down) creating a mesmerizing atmosphere keeping your ear entertained all along. You will never get bored!

8 - Nulek & JJ Beteta - 4 Da Streetz [2TRKS01]

Hyper deep and hypnotizing breakbeat track. Captivating Pad accompanied by a roaring bass line and a catchy vocal. Few solid elements with a steady evolution all sounding effortless, one of the hardest results to achieve in music production.

Nulek is one of Barcelona’s hidden (not for long) gems with his record label Siku. Definitely an artist to follow.

9 - Noogman - It Talks / It Walks

From Netherlands Label Polylux Records, this early 00’s house track has a deep and funky groove. Every little element is in constant evolution in this well written story. From its deep bouncy bassline to the captivating pad and vocal sample. The long break with the speech loop builds up a nice tension before the drop. The crowd loves it!

10 - Aline Umber & Maxime dB - Tribute to Malibu [AF003]

Last but not least, a fresh sound from a fresh label curated by Parisian talents Maxime dB and Aline Brooklyn (half of highly recommended hybrid live act Aline Umber Live). A groovy funky track already sounding like a classic with its dulcet vocal, ethereal pads and snappy bassline, all portraying a joyful voyage.  Undoubtedly artists to keep an eye on!
