The Warm-Up: Monile selects ahead of MOGA Essaouira 2023

The Moroccan-born and Barcelona-based Monile has steadily established herself as both a dynamic and influential figure of the scene. Her impeccable mixing skills and innate ability to connect with her audience make her a sought-after performer, who leaves a lasting imprint on every dancefloor she graces with her innovative fusion of genres — from Chicago house and minimal, to UK breaks and Detroit electro.

Though details are under wraps for the moment, Monile is set to unleash a slew of punchy solo records and collaborations in the coming months, along with her own event series wherein she will be showcasing talented and inspiring artists and friends from different musical backgrounds, and representing her own vision of music.

Ahead of all this she will perform at MOGA Festival, which takes place in the stunning and storied and storied coastal city of Essaouira in Morocco, alongside the likes of A Guy Called Gerald, Gene On Earth, Maayan Nidam, Peach, Quest, Dyed Soundorom, Fumiya Tanaka, tINI, Malika, and Margaret Dygas. We caught up with her ahead of the festivsal, as she gave us a glimpse into her cosmic record bag...

DJ Deeon - 2 B Free

Tribute to the late House legend Deeon Boyd who left us a solid legacy of ghetto house hits.

‘2 B Free’ is the perfect intro track, starting with a vocoder tension build up part followed by a groove explosion setting up the mood of the set.

2 - Moray - Ohhhhh Really [HMV05]

Total dancefloor destroyer, tested many times. This tune has all the ingredients the crowd needs. A raw groove, bouncing bassline and a surphypnotizing acid melody during the break. Made by a talented producer and amazing person. Good discovery this year.

3 - Active Nature - Twone (Freesome)

Less is more. One of my most played tracks this year. When minimalism meets elegance. Perfect for a warm up to set up a classy and mysterious atmosphere.

4 - Eversines - Onheil [ninih004]

Very good discovery this year. This album has all you need. From breaks to electro, downtempo to acid techno. A solid record to have in your bag.

5 - Noogman - It Talks / It Walks

From Label Polylux Records, this track has a deep and funky groove, enchanting pad and a long break with a vocal speech building up a nice tension for the drop. A well written story.

6 - Alexander Robotnik - Jette le Masque (My La (te)st Album)

One of Italy’s most precious live acts. Dancefloor killer with original sounds and a fun vocal. Loving the title of the album too.

7 - Rui Da Silva - Touch Me

Back to basics. Played this classic 00s hit as a closing and definitely ended the set beautifully and smoothly.

8 - Nulek & JJ Beteta - 4 Da Streetz [2TRKS01]

Hyper deep and trippy breaks track. Few solid elements. Nulek is one of Barcelona’s hidden (not for long) gems with his record label Siku. Definitely an artist to follow.

9 - Third Culture - U Move

From Lone Romantic Label by Maceo Plex. This breakbeat track has powerful elements and transitions. A perfect mastery of tension and release with an energetic robotic vocal.

10 - HearThuG - I Want To Make You Dance [STRWB008]

Freshly released track by Tunisian artist HearThug. Tested and always rocking the dance floor.  Crowd always asking for ID.
