The Warm-Up: Zeina selects ahead of Sandbox Festival 2023

Sandbox Festival goes down in El Gouna on the Red Sea Riviera in Egypt from May 11th - 13th. It is an idyllic and intimate setting with stunning sunsets, warm sun and a friendly welcoming crowd. As well as the world class music, there is a wealth of rich local culture and customs to explore and enjoy from food to watersports.

This year the tunes are provided by acts like Agents Of Time (DJ Set), Astra Club aka Carlita B2B DJ Tennis, Cici, Dan Shake, Denis Sulta, Desiree, Francesco Del Garda, Hamish & Toby and more.

Cairo-based DJ and producer Zeina also plays, and is sure to bring her expressive and creative vibe to the stage. She runs her own Unfamiliar night which she launched with a view to promoting inclusivity and community for women and minorities in electronic music, and to cross-pollinate talent and influences from the cities she’s lived in. A regular at spaces like Club der Visionäre, she explores the spaces where house and techno meet. Ahead of Sandbox, here she shares some of her top current tunes.

For the last remaining Sandbox tickets head to

1. Jordan GCZ - Bah Bah Rhodes

Elegant, subtle and introspective but can still work the floor.

2. Ahmad Jamal - Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child

One of my favorite jazz tunes. Flirty, floaty control across the entire piano.

3. Boo Williams - Changes

A track I’ve used many times to end a night. Dust off your baggage, everything is well in the world, kinda tune.

4. Vass - D-Discoveries

I’ve used this track in a DJ set as a way to interrupt some dancey tunes with some subtle dramaaaa. Bassline heaven.

5. DJ Stingray 313 - eRbB4

Played this one a lot over the years, love how you can’t pigeon hole it, it’s many things in one.

6. Fresh & Low - When The Wolves Return

Perfect embodiment of less is more, but also love how each element takes its time to come in. Timeless!

7. Retrigger - The Meaning

Deep acid trippy perfection.

8. The 7th Plain - T Funk States

Percussive, shuffling techno with swag. That’s my favorite part of this track - the percs, I did a non-synth edit of this that I’m happy to share!

9. Calibre - Change With Me

Infinite amount of tracks to choose from Calibre’s DnB discography, and the common thread is that it all feels deeply personal.

10. Joan As Police Woman x Tony Allen x Dave Okumu - Geometry Of You

Indie tune on repeat. A collaboration that features legendary drummer Tony Allen.
