Heritage Listed sits down with us to talk through afew significant tracks that inspired him to do what he does…
People Plus - Acension
I first heard this track on a terrace overlooking the beach in Morocco, and it was an eye-opener. I don’t know if it was the sunset, the scene, the people (or everything), but my god it was gorgeous.
It inspired me a lot because of the fusion of acoustic drums, jazz harmonies and lush synths, it hit different. Since then, I’ve always dreamt of doing a more chill, jazzy house EP or album, which I'm now working on at the moment.
So thank you, People Plus, and thank you, Josh, for showing it to me!
Rick Wade - Sweet Life
It’s probably thanks to this song that I tend to use strings in almost every track I make, haha.
Without going in depth, every single element of this song works so harmoniously together, i can’t really imagine anything better. Is there even anything better?
You know it’s an incredible song when it can instantly transport you to a place, mood, a setting. Regardless of where i hear this, it clicks back in. The perfect vibe, perfect track.
Salomé de Bahia - Outro Lugar
Bit of a classic one here.
We all have a soft spot for Afro-Latin music mixed with house somewhere. Latin American music is an enormous inspiration for me, especially from Brazil, so when I hear it with house, it brings out something in me.
What I love about this track is that you can play it in many contexts, and people connect immediately. Once that piano comes in, you know it's on.
Soulsearcher - Feelin Love
This is the perfect house track. When I first heard this at a party in Sydney, it made me want to make house.
The bassline is the grooviest shit I’ve ever heard, the drums are hip-shakers, the vocals are soulful af, and most importantly, it gets you movin'. Who doesn’t get excited once that chorus comes in?
This track remains one of my main inspirations, and if I can make a track half this good one day, I’ll be a very happy man.
Folamour - These Are Just Places to Me Now
As we all learn in school, sampling and house go together like bread and butter.
When I hear tracks like this gem from Folamour, I am inspired to use more samples in my work because the potential is enormous. One sample really can change it all.
This particular track is the one I listen to most often when I fly because it really takes me to a place where I feel at peace, despite the craziness and unpredictability of being on the move.
