The DNA of Funk City: 10 Records That Influenced Emilio Mustafá

Following the release of Funk City LP on Noisy Neighbours, Colombian DJ and producer Emilio Mustafá takes us through ten records that have shaped his musical identity, offering a glimpse into the sounds, artists and influences behind his approach to electronic music.

Written over the course of a year between Bogotá and Barcelona, Funk City brings together house, deep house, UK garage, electro, hip-hop and Latin influences, connected by a strong sense of groove and a deep appreciation for the diversity of underground dance music. But behind the album lies a wider musical world, one that moves freely between continents, genres and generations.

From the sample-rich hip-hop of Medellín to the adventurous sounds of Colombian electronic music, deep house masterpieces and groove-driven club records, these ten selections reveal some of the music that has informed Emilio’s sound, both in the studio and behind the decks. Each record tells a different part of the story, offering insight into the inspirations, discoveries and personal connections that helped shape Funk City.
